Best Practices on Writing Recommendations

Based on my review of the recommendations exercise. Here are some best practices:

  • Briefly summarize the empirical result that supports your explanation of the problem.
  • Use language that a non-UX professional understands.
  • Clearly separate the description of the problem and the recommendation.
  • For the recommendation, provide clear, operational instructions on how the problem can be addressed.
  • If the implementation of a recommendation has a substantive cost, acknowledge the cost and explain why addressing the problem is worth it.

Next step: revisit your recommendations and review them based on these best practices. Follow up with comments or a revised problem description and recommendation. Review and comment on other postings.
